Working closely with our catering company enables us to have a shared philosophy on all aspects of food. It helps us to:
- reinforce appropriate messages relating to food and nutrition, e.g. ensuring consistency between the formal curriculum and food provision, emphasizing healthy eating messages;
- give us information on all aspects of cooked meals in school;
- communicates our shared vision of 'excellence' but most importantly it:
- improves the health and wellbeing for all pupils.
Thanks to Nicky Sawkins and her team Kingscourt has always served locally-grown fruit, vegetables and meat in school dinners. Potatoes are real and peeled freshly every day! Nicky pioneered the use of seasonal local produce and transformed school dinners into delicious and healthy meals that the children and teachers enjoy.
The whole school eats together, both staff and children, and it is an enjoyable social time of the day. The children are encouraged to be polite, have good table manners and help one another.
"At Kingscourt we don't just have great meals but brilliant school dinners where you want to lick the plate clean - we don't of course!" Pupil
