Kingscourt Delighted to Receive Green Tree Schools Gold Award
Kingscourt School was delighted to receive a Green Tree Schools Gold Award from The Woodland Trust recently. The Trust rewards schools for completing environmental projects and encouraging outdoor learning. They said, “Our award is a fantastic way to enhance a school’s green credentials whilst inspiring youngsters about woods and trees.”
Outdoor Learning teacher Caroline Hubbard said, “We had to gain points by completing activities. We already had the bronze and silver awards so all of the children were very keen to go for gold. We now hope to really stretch ourselves to achieve the prestigious platinum award.”
The whole school community planted a coppice of trees last autumn. Other activities which went towards the gold standard were: becoming tree champions, tree dressing, sharing woodland experiences through words and images, recycling in school and becoming woodlands ambassadors.
Headteacher Mr Jamie Lewis said, “We are lucky to have 25 acres of playing fields and an extensive garden which features a large number of well-established trees. Kingscourt pupils enjoy many lessons outdoors and we, as a whole school, strive to operate on green principles and with due respect for the environment.”
